Since his studies at the Conservatories of Enschede and Amsterdam, tenor Sebastian Brouwer's career has taken him not only to numerous stages across Europe, but also on tours and concert series in the United States, Australia, and South America.
At Dutch music festivals and concert series, he has performed with orchestras such as the Concertgebouw (Chamber) Orchestra and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, working under the baton of conductors including Edo de Waart, Jaap van Zweden, Roy Goodman, Jan Willem de Vriend, and Ton Koopman. His voice has also been heard on radio and television with various national broadcasters, including Vara (Matinée), NPS, and VPRO.
Sebastian Brouwer has a highly diverse repertoire, ranging from oratorio to opera and chamber music, and from the earliest written vocal music to contemporary pieces. Due to the wide range of his voice, he has also frequently performed Haut-contre repertoire.
He is a much sought-after performer of the music of J.S. Bach, with his interpretations of the Passions (Evangelist and arias) and Oratorios by this composer being widely praised. Other works from the oratorio repertoire include pieces such as Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Paul, Handel's The Messiah, Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Ramirez's Misa Criolla, Dvořák's Stabat Mater, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Haydn's The Seasons and Creation. He was invited, among other things, to perform the Matthäuspassion by J.S. Bach at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and at the famous Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
In the field of opera, his extensive experience is demonstrated by the large number of lead tenor roles he has successfully performed, including Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), Alceste (Handel), Pygmalion and Les Indes Galantes (Rameau), Orphée et Eurydice and Iphigénie en Tauride (Gluck), La Sonnambula and I Puritani (Bellini), La Traviata (Verdi), Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Die Fledermaus (Strauss), Carmen (Bizet), Call me Ishmael (Goldschneider, world premiere), and Der Hund (Zuiddam, world premiere).
In recent years, Sebastian Brouwer has regularly been involved in the performance of contemporary music. In this context, his voice has inspired several composers to write new vocal pieces, which he has premiered, such as Cantata by Bram Stadhouders, which received positive reviews from the national press for both its CD and performances
